The reigning NBL champions finished third in the Intercontinental Cup tournament by beating the BCL Asia Champions, Lebanese club Al Riyadi. The final score was 80-75 for the Tasmania JackJumpers with the game being decided on the last minute.
A big three by Anthony Drmic (78-75) proved to be the key, as Al Riyadi couldn’t score after that.
Will Magnay with 19 points and seven rebounds was the top scorer of the winning side (photo), while Majok Deng added 13 points, Drmic had 12 and Jordon Crawford also scored 10 points.
For the losing side, which also achieved their goal of a top four finish, forward Hayk Gyokchyan with 19 points was the top scorer, followed by Bosnian center Elmedin Kikanovic with 16.
Despite an early 13-point lead by the JackJumpers, Al Riyadi fought back and managed to enter the last period leading by seven (58-51) but couldn’t finish the game the proper way.
Earlier, the BAL champions Petro De Luanda beat the BCL Americas champions Quimsa (70-64) and got the fifth spot in the final standings. Abou Gakou with 20 points was the top scorer of the African champions.
