Huge boost for the Germany senior national team heading to the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.
Dennis Schroder is traveling separately to Stockholm hoping to receive medical clearance and represent his country against Sweden tomorrow, Thursday. The captain of Germany was slated as doubtful to even make the trip with an ankle injury but is on his way, as noted by the German Basketball Federation Wednesday.
Carrying a 5-1 record from the previous round, Germany hopes to improve to 6-1 in Sweden. At the bottom end of FIBA’s international window, the team coached by Gordon Herbert will face Slovenia and Luka Doncic in Munich. Currently tied with Finland on top of the Group J standings, the top three of the six-team group will clinch a berth in next summer’s World Cup.
Switching to Group B of EuroBasket’s preliminary round, Germany is set to welcome France, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Lithuania, Slovenia, and Hungary in Cologne from 1 to 7 September. Finishing in the top four spots would punch in a ticket to Berlin and the knockout stage of the tournament stretching up to 18 September.
Keep in mind that Isaac Bonga, Maxi Kleber, and Moe Wagner have been excluded from all the above international fixtures. Daniel Theis seems on the verge of being ruled out as well.
Germany’s remaining selections:

Justus Hollatz (Rio Breogan)
David Kramer (Basketball Lowen Braunschweig)
Leon Kratzer (Telekom Baskets Bonn)
Maodo Lo (Alba Berlin)
Andreas Obst (FC Bayern Munich)
Gavin Schilling (Limoges CSP)
