For Victor Wembanyama, the last few weeks have been like a daydream. The young 18-year-old French forward dazzled the United States in Boulogne-Levallois’ two games against the G-League Ignite and he will now experience his first minutes in the senior France team.
“I have already played in the France youth team and that always gives me extra motivation. It is very important for me. Fighting for your country is totally different, it gives you greater energy“, Wembanyama said per L’Equipe.
He also talked about what he will bring to the Blues, but also about Vincent Collet, his coach of Boulogne-Levallois and also the coach of the French national team.
“I will try to include myself in the project, to try to bring two victories to the French team. I will try to bring freshness, and presence on the ground. In the France team, in FIBA and at all levels, it starts with defense, so I will try to bring that energy. Vincent was one of the main reasons why I joined Boulogne-Levallois, I had discussed a lot with him before. I think he’s my best asset here, I knew what to expect but he pleasantly surprised me beyond the level, his knowledge, with his involvement and how willing he is to do his best to, have a personalized and healthy project“.
On Friday, Wembanyama played his best game of the season, accumulating 33 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 41 efficiency ranking in 35 minutes.
