The Serbian national team will not have Vasilije Micic on the court on Monday for the game against Turkey in a crucial clash in the qualification for the World Cup. Anadolu Efes decided not to let their point guard travel to Belgrade. Serbia’s couch Svetislav Pesic was disappointed but did not want to talk about it too much.
“We have no reaction. We don’t want to focus on that. We want to focus on the things we can control. Vasa was already on his way, he had booked a ticket. We are a bit sad about that decision. Not only because of Micic but also because of the decision that was made,” Pesic said.
He added that the upcoming EuroLeague game was why Micic had to stay in Istanbul.
“We don’t have all the exact details about it, that it was done because of the preparation for Efes‘ game against Barcelona. That’s the reasoning. I would not like to comment on that“.
Pesic praised Melih Mahmutoglu before the game on Monday.
“He’s in the shape of life. You saw his percentages against Zvezda in the EuroLeague, then against Belgium. They have three top-class point guards and a good balance between backcourt and frontcourt“.
Serbia won its game on Friday against Great Britain, while Turkey got the “W” in a clash against Belgium.
