Argentina is out of the FIBA World Cup for the first time since 1982

The 2019 FIBA World Cup runner-up will not play in the International competition after losing to the Dominican Republic

Thanks to an incredible 25-11 run in the fourth quarter, the Dominican Republic shocked everybody, beat 79-75 Argentina on the road, and qualified for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, pushing the 2019 runner-up out of the International competition for the first time since 1982.

Gabriel Deck stepped up with 27 points, shooting 10/15 from the field and 7/8 at the line, while Facundo Campazzo had 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists. Nicolas Laprovittola added 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

The away team was dragged by Jean Montero, who had 22 points while shooting 8/13 from the field and 4/4 at the line. Angel Delgado went close to a double-double of 7 points and 10 rebounds.

In the other games of the night, five teams qualified for the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Venezuela lost 74-57 against Canada but head into the International competition thanks to Argentina’s loss.

Brazil beat the USA 83-76 thanks to the ratiopharm Ulm’s Yago Santos-Bruno Caboclo. The playmaker had 17 points and 8 assists, while the former Toronto Raptors small forward had 21 points and 8 rebounds.

Finally, both Mexico and Puerto Rico qualified for the World Cup after respectively beat Uruguay and Colombia. Pinar Karsiyaka’s Braian Angola wasn’t enough with 20 points, while Victor Wembanyama’s teammate Tremont Waters had 12 points and 7 assists. Jordan Howard added 18 points.
