Austin Reaves among players committing to Team USA

A glimpse into Team USA preparing for the 2023 FIBA World Cup surfaces six potential newcomers to the squad.

A rumored candidate to play for Germany’s senior national team, Austin Reaves of the Los Angeles Lakers was among six players committing to the team coached by Steve Kerr, according to the Athletic. New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson, Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis, Brooklyn Nets swingman Mikal Bridges, Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton, and Minnesota Timberwolves forward Anthony Edwards complete the reported list.

With a selected few carrying junior international experience representing the United States, all six NBA players are expected to make themselves available for a possible debut at the senior level. Twelve players will ultimately fit in the final roster.

Path to the World Cup

Highlighting the summer schedule, Team USA will compete in the FIBA World Cup to be hosted in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia, from 25 August to 10 September. The opponents in the preliminary round of the tournament range from New Zealand to Greece and Jordan in the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Group C’s first and second seeds will enter Group J with two out of Group D’s Egypt, Lithuania, Mexico, and Montenegro following as the next opponents in the same venue located in the Philippines. Group J’s top two national teams will clinch a berth in the Quarterfinals.

The training camp will lead to the exhibition introduction opposite Puerto Rico in Las Vegas on August 7 to later friendly games against Slovenia and Spain in Malaga, and Greece and Germany in Abu Dhabi.
