Germany announces squad for 2023 FIBA World Cup preparations with five NBA players

Head coach Gordon Herbert has unveiled the squad for the German national team as they gear up for the highly anticipated FIBA Basketball World Cup, set to commence on July 31, 2023, in Bonn.

A total of 18 players have received invitations, including all 12 who clinched the bronze medal at the EuroBasket held in Cologne and Berlin last year.

Additionally, the “late cuts” from the previous roster, David Kraemer of Basketball Lowen Braunschweig and Leon Kramer of Telekom Baskets Bonn, have been added, along with Isaac Bonga from Bayern Munich, Oscar Da Silva from Barcelona, Maximilian Kleber from the Dallas Mavericks, and Moritz Wagner from the Orlando Magic.

Coach Herbert expressed his enthusiasm for the selected group.

We have a great collection of players joining us for the training camp. Each individual is displaying tremendous commitment and a strong desire to represent their country at the highest level. It’s a true honor for all of them to don the German jersey. I am eagerly looking forward to our journey ahead. Our objective is to compete for a medal at the World Championships,” Herbert said.

The team will be supported by a group of delegation leader/vice president Armin Andres, sports director Adam Ligocki, assistant coaches Bret Brielmaier and Klaus Perwas, athletics coach Arne Greskowiak, team doctor Oliver Pütz, physiotherapists/osteopaths Matthias Schmitt and Stelios Zografakis, and team supervisor Heikel Ben Meftah.

Germany is placed in Group E (Okinawa Arena, Okinawa City) for the upcoming World Cup, alongside Finland, Australia and hosts Japan.
