Sloukas wants to rest this summer, Walkup to cover him in the national team

Kostas Sloukas has informed the Greek basketball federation per multiple sources that for the first time in his career he needs to rest this summer and skip the FIBA World Cup, creating a domino effect in the roster.

With 33-years old Sloukas out – who was present every summer since 2006 counting the junior national teams – and Nick Calathes also being 34 years old, the need for the presence of recently naturalized Thomas Walkup in the team seems to be more than pressing.

National team coach Dimitris Itoudis has to choose either Walkup or his player in Fenerbahce Tyler Dorsey for the roster.

While Dorsey is the better shooter and this is an urgent need with Giannis Antetokounmpo on the team, the presence of Thomas Walkup in the point guard position without Sloukas present maybe even more needed.

The Greek national team is expected to start the FIBA World Cup training camp at the end of July.
