Was Victor Wembanyama right to focus on preparing for his rookie season in the NBA instead of representing France in the 2023 FIBA World Cup?
ESPN’s Pardon the Interruption tackled the dilemma via Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon. They were unable to agree if the decision was good or bad for basketball but presented multiple interesting points ranging from the overuse of young upstarts such as Wemby to international basketball being more attractive to fans versus the NBA Summer League.
Wembanyama, 19, commanding attention and generating arguments is likely to become the norm but certainly was far from his intentions in this case.
Pardon the Interruption on Victor Wembanyama skipping the 2023 FIBA World Cup
Without Wenbanyama debuting in a major FIBA tournament, France will face Canada, Latvia, and Lebanon in Group H of the preliminary round hoping to launch an extended run in Asia, one year before hosting the Olympic Games.
