The guest of the 18th episode of Podcast P, Tyrese Haliburton talked about the opportunity to play for Team USA in the approaching FIBA World Cup.
“I’m really excited about it because I think we have a bunch of young dudes who got something to prove like, not only like for ourselves but to everybody because you see our roster and none of us have established that we’re like a top 10 guy in the league or anything like that,” he noted, “We all still got a lot of room to grow as players. I think everybody kind of has a point to prove out there. I think it’s, it’s gonna be fun because there are guys on the team with [Team] USA experience that have done it, you know, obviously like 19 under 17 under have done it like growing up and stuff like that.”
Paolo Banchero, Mikal Bridges, Jalen Brunson, Anthony Edwards, Josh Hart, Brandon Ingram, Jaren Jackson Jr., Cameron Johnson, Walker Kessler, Bobby Portis, and Austin Reaves are the remaining selections for Team USA. Steve Kerr is the head coach.
Haliburton, 23, himself a former international player for the USA at the junior level, also focused on the recent maximum contract extension with the Indiana Pacers and being traded from the Sacramento Kings midway through the 2021-22 season, among other topics discussed with host Paul George.
