Karl-Anthony Towns, the prominent big man for the Minnesota Timberwolves, is potentially making a long-awaited comeback for the Dominican Republic’s national basketball team after an absence of 10 years.
Rafael Uribe, the president of the Dominican Republic Basketball Federation, revealed in a recent interview on the radio show “Diamante Deportivo” that there is a high likelihood of Towns playing for the country in the upcoming 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Uribe surprised the hosts when he confidently stated that the chances of Towns’ participation are around 90%.
“There’s a mutual interest, and we exchange messages on the phone every day,” he told.
Karl-Anthony Towns last wore the Dominican Republic jersey in 2013, during the AmeriCup.
The Dominican Republic is set to compete in Group A during the 2023 FIBA World Cup, facing opponents like Italy, Angola, and the Philippines.
Last season Towns averaged 20,8 points, 8,1 rebounds and 4,8 assists in the NBA, and it would be a huge addition to the Dominican team.
