France center Mathias Lessort hasn’t been able to practice with the rest of the national team since the beginning of the training camp ahead of the 2023 World Cup due to an ankle problem and will sit out the upcoming prep game against Tunisia (6/8).

Per the French Basketball Federation, Lessort has been experiencing discomfort in his ankle which requires him to rest. His condition will be reassessed by the medical staff of the French national team, following a protocol in consultation with Lessort’s club Panathinaikos Athens.

The World Cup begins for France on August 25. Les Bleus participate in Group H in Jakarta, Indonesia, together with Canada, Latvia and Lebannon.

After missing the cut for the 2022 EuroBasket, Lessort was called to return to the French national team for the World Championship coming from a standout season with Partizan Belgrade. He made the All-EuroLeague First Team after posting 12.1 points and 7.1 rebounds as the Serbian powerhouse came one win away from making the Final Four.

Early in the offseason, Lessort signed a two-year deal with Panathinaikos.
