Nikola Milutinov delivered an impressive performance against Greece at the Acropolis Cup in Athens, starting as the center for the Serbian National Team in the absence of NBA champion and two-time MVP, Nikola Jokic.
While Milutinov is accustomed to being a starting big man at the club level, he now faces significant responsibility within the National Team as well.
“I’ve had this opportunity before in my career as a starting center, so I have some experience. I’m used to it, and I will try to do my job to the best of my abilities. Of course, I would be happier if Jokic were here, but it is what it is. I will try to fill that gap, although it’s almost impossible,” Milutinov remarked after the game.
He expressed his excitement about the success of his compatriot, especially given that a center like Jokic has achieved so much in the NBA.

“I’m genuinely delighted that a center of his style achieved the MVP status in the league and became a champion. I’m really proud of him, I know how much hard work he put throughout the years, how much he was focused and dedicated to win this, and because of that I’m really happy.”
Apart from Jokic, Vasilije Micic and Aleksej Pokusevski are also unavailable to assist Serbia at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
“We have Bogdanovic, our captain, our primary asset. At least, we have him.”
Milutinov doesn’t consider Serbia to be among the favorites for the gold medal.
“There are many teams, I cannot only pick one, but for sure we are not one of the favorites,” Milutinov concluded.
