Pushing after Germany’s senior national team captain Dennis Schroder fouled out, Canada rallied to earn the overtime win, 113-112, versus Germany in the Final of the Basketball SuperCup in Hamburg’s edel-optics.de Arena Sunday.
Taking over, RJ Barrett poured in seven points down the stretch of the fourth period, including the game-tying bucket. Adding six more points in the five extra minutes shaped the game-high effort of 31 points behind 13/14 from the field for the 23-year-old swingman of the New York Knicks.
Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 25 points. Team captain Kelly Olynyk produced 21 points. The comeback win lifted the team coached by Badalona native Jordi Fernandez to the top of the friendly tournament between four teams preparing for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
