France center Mathias Lessort is cleared to participate in the 2023 FIBA World Cup after missing the bulk of his national team’s training camp due to an ankle problem, the French Basketball Federation announced.
Real Madrid center Vincent Poirier and AS Monaco big man Yoan Makoundou are the last two players to be cut by France coach Vincent Collet. The roster of France for the World Cup includes Evan Fournier, Rudy Gobert, Nicolas Batum, Nando De Colo, Guerschon Yabusele, Elie Okobo, Isaia Cordinier, Yakuba Ouattara, Mathias Lessort, Terry Tarpey, Moustapha Fall and Sylvain Francisco.
Lessort followed a treatment protocol by the French team and Panathinaikos Athens and is now ready to join his squad in Jakarta, Indonesia where the Group stage of the World Cup will be held for Les Bleus. The big man will be reunited with his teammates Tuesday (22/8), three days before his squad faces Canada in their World Championship premiere.

This will be Lessort’s first major tournament with France after the 2019 FIBA World Cup, where his team finished with the bronze medal. The 27-year-old player comes off the top season of his career on a club level that included making the All-EuroLeague First Team as a member of Partizan Belgrade.
France completed its preparation games ahead of the World Cup Sunday (20/8) with a loss to Australia despite a productive night by Evan Fournier.
