Dairis Bertans scored 20 points on 6-7 triples as Latvia crushed Lebanon 109 – 70 to begin the 2023 World Cup in an impressive fashion in its first-ever game in the competition.
Rolands Smits added 17 points for Latvia that also had three other scorers in double figures. It was a superb offensive performance for Luca Banchi’s players who opened the game 27 – 17 in the first period and didn’t hold back to continue dominating.
Sergio El Darwich led Lebanon with 19 points and Omari Rasulala Spellman contributed 18 points.
Their team couldn’t match the superior quality of Latvia and at least hope for a more competitive performance in its return to the World Cup stage after 2010.
