The newly formed N group for the classification round brought us the first win for Mexico in this FIBA World Cup. Mexico won against New Zealand 108-100.
Less than 24 hours after their hard battle against Greece which they lost, New Zealand did not recover in time for Mexico. This is evident, especially in the first half.
Mexico came out running, scoring 31 points in the first 10 minutes, by halftime they were already up 57-41. New Zealand tried to storm back in the fourth quarter cutting the lead down to 104-100 but Mexico’s proved to be too much for Pero Cameron’s squad.
Pako Cruz led the win for Mexico with 27 points. Fabian Jaimes added 17, Gabriel Giron 16, as well as Joshua Ibarra.
Reuben Te Rangi’s 32 points were not enough for New Zealand, Finn Delany had 19 points, a Shea Ili followed with 18.
Egipt played good basketball in the newly formed group for the entire 40 minutes and that is why they got a win over Jordan 85-69. Egypt inked their second win this World Cup, while Jordan now has four losses.
Egypt made a crucial run at the beginning of the fourth quarter which was enough for a drama-free ending.
Ehab Amin and Assem Marei had 20 points for Egypt, on the other side for Jordan Sami Bzai had 18 points.
