In a game that did not help any team advance to the quarterfinals because Germany and Slovenia were through from Group K, Australia was determined to finish the FIBA World Cup on a high note, getting a win over Georgia, 100-84.
The Boomers already qualified for the Olympic games next year so there was no pressure Sunday.
Australia handled business in the first half. They had a decadent six-point lead after the first quarter (23-17), but it was all over it in the second. Australia made a crucial run that helped them have a big 17-point lead that was enough for a drama-free second half.
Patty Mills led the way with 19 points, Dante Exum added 18, Duop Teath had 16, and Josh Giddey finished the game with 15 points.
As for Georgia, Goga Bizadze scored 20 points, while grabbing six rebounds. Thaddus McFadden added 18 points.
