The Miami Heat selected Nikola Jovic as the 27th pick in the 2022 NBA draft. Despite missing most of his first season due to injury, he is shining with the national team at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Jovic is averaging 10.7 points and displaying his versatility with 3.2 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game. He has become an important part of Svetislav Pesic’s squad, which has reached the semifinals. Miami Heat is closely monitoring their Serbian prospect, with Vice President of Basketball Operations, Adam Simon, following his progress in the Philippines.
“We are extremely happy with Nikola’s performances at the World Cup. Coach Pešić has given him a great opportunity. We have seen how hard he works. He has shown a lot of potential. Jovic has demonstrated great versatility within the team. The coach uses him in several ways on offense. Nikola is one of the youngest players in the tournament, but he plays like a veteran,“ Simon said to Meridian Sport.
The head coach of the Miami Heat, Erik Spoelstra, is also present in the Philippines as part of Team USA’s coaching staff. He used the opportunity to meet with Jovic during the tournament and have a chat with the Serbian forward. Simon hopes they’ll meet again in the World Cup finals.
“It’s great that the two of them had a chat for a while in Manila. I hope they will meet again in the final,” Simon concludes.
