After a long period of questions, according to Greek basketball federation sources Nick Calathes will have the right to play in the upcoming FIBA World Cup as WADA and the world governing body of the sport banned him for four months.
As Eurohoops had reported, there was no precedent in a case like Calathes, who was banned from the NBA after failing a anti-doping control test for 20 games and had served 7 games of his suspension. The worst case scenario for Calathes was a two years ban, however the fact that it was a first time offense and also the presentation of the facts behind the case by the legal team of the player led the authorities into punishing him with the lightest of penalties.
The FIBA ban of Calathes starts from the 19th of April, so he will be cleared to play at August 18th.
