In the fourth preparation game of Spain before the upcoming FIBA World Cup, the hosts of the tournament were in trouble. Playing in Istanbul, Turkey cut their lead to one (64-63) with two minutes to go. However in the end Spain got the 70-63 win.
Marc Gasol made two free throws, then gave an assist to his brother Pau for the 68-63 and the game was over. In total Marc Gasol had 16 points and 13 rebounds in a dominant performance and Pau added 13 points and 7 assists. Baris Hersek with 10 points was the only Turkish player in double digits.
That was one reason for losing coach Ergin Ataman to say after the game: “Coach Orenga is very lucky on the aspect that he has his NBA players. From our side only Omer Asik was willing to play for the national team”.
