In the clash which may decide the top of the final group standings, Croatia beat Argentina 90-85. The game was decided two minutes before the end with a big three point shot by Roko Leni Ukic who gave an eight points advantage to Croatia (88-80). Luis Scola had a monster game with 30 points and 9 rebounds, but Croatia had more options with Simon (18 p.), Saric (16 p.) and Bogdanovic (16 p.). There were also bad news for the winners, as naturalized point guard Oliver Laffayete (11 p., 9 r.) left the court hurt, however according to the first reports his injury doesn’t seem to be something serious.
Senegal got its first win (82-75) in the tournament over unlucky Puerto Rico. Carlos Arroyo sprained his ankle after 11 minutes of action and the winners took advantage of his absence. According to the first reports Arroyo is expected to miss some of the next games of his team. The duo of Faye with 20 points and Dieng with 18 and 13 rebounds were the best of Senegal. Renaldo Balkman tried his best for Puerto Rico with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Τhis is the third victory of Senegal in their World Cup history (1998, 1979), but the first in group stages.
In the last game of the day, Greece got the relatively easy win over Philippines (82-70). A good first quarter (20-10) was enough for the winners with Giorgos Printezis scoring 25 points, a personal best with the national team. Greece and Croatia share the top (2-0), Argentina and Senegal are at 1-1, while Puerto Rico and Philippines are left at 0-2.
