Group A: Spain and Brazil prevailed

Iran proved that being Asian champion is no small feat and destroyed Egypt, getting a comfort win, its first, at the tournament. The final score was 88-73 as Hamed Haddadi dominated with 23 points and 15 rebounds. The top scorer of the winners, however, was Nikkhah Bahrami with 24 points. Still Iran with a 1-3 record has virtually no chances of advancing to the second round and the same applies to Egypt (0-4).

Brazil had a great first half (48-32), Serbia reacted in the third quarter and got the lead (64-60), but in the end the South Americans got the win (81-73) thanks to a 14-4 run in the first eight minutes of the last period. It was a crazy game and the big surprise was Marquinhos Vieira scoring 21 points and being the top scorer for the winners. Nenad Krstic played for the first time in the tournament and Milos Teodosic had 14 points and 5 assists. The bottom line is that Brazil has a 3-1 record and Serbia is left at 2-2.

Spain finished the day with a convincing win over France (88-64). The hosts are at full strenght, the European champions have important absences, with Tony Parker being the most notable, and the game after the first half wasn’t really competitive. Marc Gasol with 17 points was the top scorer of the winners.

Standings
