Brazil destroyed Egypt 128-65 and finished second in the final standings behind Spain. Six Brazilians scored double digits and two of them (Neto and Varejao) had a double-double. Brazil scored more points than any other team in this tournament (USA’s best scoring record was 114 points against Finland).
Iran wanted to win in order to advance and Hamed Haddadi did his best with 22 points and 15 rebounds. However France got the 81-76 win and the third place. A game which in theory wasn’t that hard, proved to be a difficult test for the European champions with captain Boris Diaw being the player with the most minutes on the court.
In the last game of the day, unbeaten Spain once more dominated, this time against Serbia (89-73). Led by Pau Gasol (20 p., 8 r.) and Juan Carlos Navarro (15 p.) the hosts of the World Cup proved once again that they are eager to go all the way. Serbia despite the defeat qualified for the second round by finishing on the fourth spot of the final standings.
