The first phase of FIBA World Cup is over and Eurohoops presents the important numbers of the players and the teams that qualified for the second round. Of course, we can’t but underline also the performances of those who are heading home, however the spot light shines bright on the stars who are getting ready for the big games in Madrid and Barcelona.

Players

  • The best shooters: Xane Dalmeida’s 86,7% in FT, Kenneth Faried’s 79,1% in 2pointers, Adas Juskevicius’ 70.6% in threes rarely miss.
  • The scorer: Luis Scola is the top remaining scorer of the tournament (108 points). He has 21,6 points per game.
  • The double-double players: Gorgui Dieng (18 p., 11,4 r.) and Giannis Bourousis (12 p., 10 r.) did it three times in first phase.
  • According to the ranking Gorgui Dieng (22,8 per game) is the best player of the tournament.
  • Ricky Rubio dishes up 5,8 assists per game (29 assists), while Gorgui Dieng is the best rebounder with 11,4 per game.
  • Ricky Rubio is also first in steals (3,4 per game), while Hamady NDiaye is first in blocks (2,2 per game).

Teams

  • USA is the best offensive team in FIBA World Cup (511 points, 102,2 per game)!
  • The best shooting stats. Spain’s 79,8% in free throws, France’s 61,8% in two pointers and Australia’s 51,9% in threes are leading the tournament.
  • USA is also the best team in rebounds (210 r., 42 per game), while Senegal is the first in blocks (28 b., 5,6 per game).
  • USA dishes up 23 assists per game (115) and has the most steals (78 s., 15,6 per game), while Argentina is the team with the fewest turnovers (45 t., 9 per game).
  • Brazil scored 128 points against Egypt, its second best performance ever in World Cups. The best was registered against China in 1990.
  • Greece’s 94% (15/16) in free throws against Argentina is the best performance in this category during this World Cup and one of the best in tournament’s history.
  • Brazil’s 87% (40/47) in two pointers against Egypt is an unbelievable number, of course in the game against Egypt. In addition, Australia’s 57,1% (8/14) in 3points against Korea is the best performance in long range shooting until now in World Cup.
  • Turkey earned 45 free throws against Finland, the most in this tournament.
  • Brazil dished up 35 assists against Egypt, while Greece had twice 8 blocks in 40 minutes!

Two historical records

  • The negative: Lithuania didn’t earn any free throws in 40 minutes!!! That’s absolutely a negative record in World Cup’s history. Twice in the past Angola earned two free throws (1990, 1994), once Canada (1963) and Cuba (1986) but Lithuania is the first team ever which didn’t shot a free throw during a game!
  • The positive: Asik’s 20 rebounds (12-8) is a FIBA World Cup record! To be honest, he caught another Turkish player in the first place of the best rebounding performances, Mirsad Turkcan (13-7)!

The specialists

  • Xane D’ Almeida dished up 14 assists against Philippines, the best individual performance of this category in Spain 2014!
  • The special double-double! Raulzinho Neto is the first in this World Cup, who had a doube-double combining assists and points (14-10)!
  • Angola’s center, Yanick Moreira scored 38 points and had 45 ranking in almost 32 minutes, the best individual performance in this World Cup.
  • One more special double-double! Omer Asik is on a class by himself, as he did it in just 9:30 minutes (10 p., 10 r.)! He finished the game with 16 points and 20 rebounds.
  • Yanick Moreira attempted 24 FG and tied Andray Blatche’s number in first game of World Cup. However, Philippine’s center played 41 minutes against Croatia, 9 minutes more than Moreira
  • The bomber! Greece’s forward, Kostas Kaimakoglou, was really hot against Senegal. He had a 75% efficiency (6/8) in threes which is more than great!

Not qualified but still great

  • Jose Barea (PUR) was the top scorer of the tournament in first phase (110 points, 22 per average)
  • David Huertas’ (PUR) 93,3% in free throws was the best performance until now.
