The premiere of the round of 16 in FIBA World Cup is over and Eurohoops presents the important numbers from the first four knock out games. Those include as usual great offensive and defensive performances, surprises and disappointments, odds and ends of the stats sheets!

  • The perfect! Pau Gasol attempted 8 two pointers and made all (8/8, 100%).
  • Team USA is for 17th consecutive time (1950-2014) among the best eight World Cup teams. It’s the only team with this record!
  • One more great night for the Dragic brothers. Goran (16,5 p., 2,7 r., 4,3 as. per game) is the “big name” of the family, but Zoran (13,2 p., 3,8 r., 1,5 as. per game ) has also great performances.
  • Gorgui Dieng was amazing in group phase (18 p., 11,4 r.), but against the Gasol brothers things are always difficult for everyone. The Senegalese center had 6 points and 7 rebounds with 1/9 field goals!
  • Gustavo Ayon and Bojan Bogdanovic attempted the most field goals (19)!
  • “Do or die” games are always different than the group phase. Spain is the only team which managed to overcome its scoring average! USA (102,2 per average – 86 today), Spain (88-89), Slovenia (85-71), Croatia (82,8-64), France (75,2-69), Mexico (74-63), Dominican Republic (69,4-61), and Senegal (69,6-56) have seen their number drop.
  • Additionally, their shooting percentages were worse than their averages in this tournament except Team USA’s three points and free throws efficiency and Spain’s two points accuracy!
  • Jack Martinez of Dominican Republic with 12 points and 11 rebounds was the only “double-double” player of the day!
  • Juan Carlos Navarro may be the best shooter in Europe at this moment and one of the best ever, but today he had 0/5 attempts for three!
