The numbers of the quarterfinals

The quarterfinals of the World Cup start on Tuesday (9/9) and Eurohoops presents the most important stats teams so far and also reminds you interesting items from the past! The stand outs of the quarterfinals, the best teams of recent history and memories from a great “fight” between Drazen Petrovic and Oscar Schmidt.

  • From the top10 scorers of this World Cup only Pau Gasol (2nd with 123 p.) and Goran Dragic (6th with 99 p.) are still in the tournament!
  • Turkey, USA, Lithuania and Serbia, which were present in the semifinals of 2010, are still in tournament. However, Lithuania faces Turkey so it’s obvious that this time on part of this quarter will be left out.
  • Additionally, six teams from the top8 of 2010 are playing the quarter finals as Spain and Slovenia are also present. The two exceptions are Argentina, which is out and Russia, which didn’t travel to Spain.
  • According to Eurobasket 2013 three of four best European teams are still in tournament. Croatia is the only one which is out.
  • Scoring efficiency! USA’s 52,7% in field goals has the best number among the 8 teams, Serbians have a 38,9% accuracy in threes and Spain is the best in free throws (76,1%)
  • USA the best! Team USA is the best team in rebounds (255), assists (133) and steals (84), while Spain is better in blocks (36).
  • Turkey has 42,2% (15th) scoring efficiency in field goals, 33,9% (14th) in threes and 68,3% (18th) in free throws. However, the team is still in tournament.
  • Turkey and Brazil, two teams which play at FIBA World Cup via a wild card, reached to quarterfinals! The other two wild card teams have seen their tournament end. After Finland in group phase, Greece is also out.
  • Slovenia tied its best appearance in World Cup (8th in 2010). It needs one more victory in next three games to overcome it
  • The last big game among Serbia and Brazil can be considered for third place game in 1986, when two legends, Drazen Petrovic – as a member of Yugoslavia – faced Oscar Schmidt.
  • Team USA and Spain are always in quarter finals since 1998! Moreover, USA has no absence since 1950!
