The names of Reggio Emilia guard Amedeo Della Valle and Virtus Bologna forward Alessandro Gentile stand out among the 24 players that Italian national team head coach Meo Sachetti selected for February’s World Cup Qualifiers.
Della Valle is currently the EuroCup PIR leader (22.8 per game) and second top scorer (18.4 points per game) with Reggio Emilia while Gentile has rekindled his career in Bologna, averaging 16.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. They’ll spearhead their team’s efforts to stay undefeated in Group E.
The 24-man squad of Italy ahead of the matches vs The Netherlands (in Turin) and Romania (in Cluj) doesn’t include Fenerbahce forward Gigi Datome (who has stated that he won’t participate in the World Cup Qualifiers) and Brose Bamberg guard Daniel Hackett.
