Latvia lost to Ukraine at home 68-82 for Group B of the World Cup Qualifiers. Latvia’s starting five from the previous Eurobasket missed the game as did some of the key bench players. And while Kristaps Porzingis is injured, during the February FIBA “windows” no NBA and most EuroLeague players can’t compete for their national teams.
After the game, Spurs forward Davis Bertans took to Twitter to explain the situation, stating that the Latvian players wanted to play for the NT and accusing FIBofor taking the chance away from them.
Would always love to represent our country and fight for a chance to go to WC. Too bad that @FIBA took that from us and there is nothing we can do about it! https://t.co/jU1pPFXcaH

Ukraine was also playing without Suns center Alex Len. Latvia’s next game is on June 28th on the road against Sweeden.
