San Antonio Spurs forward Davis Bertans will join the Latvia national team from the start as they prepare for the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifying windows: “Next week when the official training camp starts.”, he confirmed per Latvia Basketball Federation official website.
The 25-year-old is very happy to play together with his brother, Dairis Bertans, who recently helped Armani Milano win the Italian League: “We have always wanted to play together and it’s a special pleasure that we can do it in the Latvian team.”
The Latvian star was keeping an eye on the opponents during the past FIBA windows and warns not to take them lightly: “The Swedes are very serious about the summer games and do not doubt that the Ukrainians will be, too. Everyone will be stronger than in the winter.”, he said before getting into details.
Bertans believes their defense will be the deciding factor on the score: “The preparation stage will be very short, so it’s important to unite as a single team in a short time. There must be very good defense. If we hold the opponents below 70 points, there will be good opportunities to win.”
Latvia will play against Sweden on 28th of June and then versus Ukraine on 1st of July, both on the road. They are currently third in Group B with a 2-4 record, behind Ukraine and Turkey.
