It was announced ten days ago and now it’s official. Scottie Wilbekin got his Turkish passport and he is eligible to play in the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifying games with the Turkish national team.
Both the player and the Turkish basketball federation agreed during the season to cooperate in order for Wilbekin to get the Turkish nationality.
Wilbekin is expected to replace Bobby Dixon in the Turkish national team roster since per FIBA rules, each team can use one naturalized player only.
However, as federation president, Hedo Turkoglu, recently said: “Dixon is also player that I respect so much. Wilbekin’s Turkish citizenship process will be completed soon. Having two neutralized players, we have taken measures concerning any injuries. Coach Ufuk Sarica will be deciding whomever he wants to add to the roster“.
