Luka Doncic attended the practice of the Slovenian national team held in Ljubljana Monday (25/6), ahead of the last two games for the first stage of the World Cup Qualifiers.
The new Dallas Mavericks guard won’t play vs. Spain and Montenegro for resting reasons (he will also skip the NBA Summer League) but still made the trip to his home country to visit his teammates and the coaching staff of Slovenia that are preparing for a key pair of matches.
Slovenia will face Spain on June 28 and then Montenegro on July 2, in Ljubljana. The reigning EuroBasket champions are 2-2 in Group A and not only want to secure qualification in the next stage but also carry the best possible record to the Round 2 of the Qualifiers.
Doncic, 19, last played for the Slovenian national team in the 2017 EuroBasket tournament. He posted 14.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists averaging 29 minutes per game and was one of the key figures in Slovenia’s undefeated run towards winning the first gold medal ever for the country. What is more, he earned All-Tournament team honors at 18 years and six months of age, becoming the youngest player to achieve this since Arvydas Sabonis in 1993.
