After spending the bulk of the season at the bench of the Brooklyn Nets, Russian center Timofey Mozgov returned to action tonight in a prep game of his national team against Latvia, ahead of the June-July World Cup Qualifiers.
Mozgov scored six points (2/5 shots) and grabbed four rebounds in 11:47 minutes as Russia beat Latvia 79 – 71 in Riga.
Dmitry Khvostov dropped a game-high 23 points, plus four assists for Russia. Semen Antonov added 14 points and Sergey Karasev 11.
For Latvia, Janis Strelnieks was the only player in double figures with 22 points. Davis Bertans and Martins Meiers had nine points apiece.
Russia, currently 2-2 in Group E, will face Belgium (June 29) and Frane (July 2). Latvia will play against Ukraine (28 June) and Sweden (July 2), looking to improve a 2 – 2 record.
