Although Serbia head coach Aleksandar Djordjevic counted on the help from all Serbian NBAers, the only one to play in the remaining two games of the first stage of FIBA World Cup Qualifications will be Boban Marjanovic.
The LA Clippers center joined the squad after finishing his acting obligations regarding John Wick movie and is ready for the tough upcoming game against Georgia: “I’m ready physically. I know some players won’t be there because of contracts and everything, but I’m sure the guys who are here can carry this out. The match with Georgia awaits us first, we played against them in the Acropolis Cup last year and lost, so that’s enough of a warning. They have good players and it will be one of the harder games. The trip to Tbilisi also awaits us. We need to stay focused.”, Marjanovic told Basketballsphere.
He doesn’t underestimate their second opponent, Germany, but believes the key for Serbia is winning the game against Georgia: “The first game will be more difficult than the second. If we beat Georgia, we will gain more confidence and it will be easier for us to play on the home court in front of our fans. Of course, that doesn’t mean it will be easy against Germany. They are a rival that shouldn’t be underestimated, they have a lot of good players and I don’t expect it to be easy. Every match brings something new.”
Serbia will travel to Tbilisi where they are scheduled to play against Georgia on 29th of June and for the second game they’ll host Germany in Novi Sad on 2nd of July.
