The final score was 71 – 93, as Latvia blew out Ukraine in the ‘Palace of Sports’ in Kiev.
Even if Latvia had a seven-point lead (34-41) at the half, the visitors picked it up in the second. With an 18-32 score in the third quarter, Latvia finished off Ukraine. In the fourth quarter, Arnis Vecvagars’s team increased this lead and eventually won the game.
Janis Strelnieks played a great game for once more, leading and orchestrating the offense. He flirted with a double-double as he put up an impressive 26 points (10/16 FG), nine assists and fie rebounds. Martins Meiers was also good for the winners, adding 16 points and seven rebounds.
As for Ukraine, Viacheslav Kravtsov finished with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Latvia finished with a 3-3 record and advanced to the second round of the qualifiers.
