With Jan Vesely and Tomas Satoransky producing big on both ends, Czech Republic beat Italy 87 – 80 in a prep tournament held in Hamburg, Germany ahead of September’s World Cup Qualifiers.
Vesely scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Satoransky posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 assists. Vojtech Hruban added 15 points for the Czech national team.
Brian Sacchetti paced Italy with 17 points. Captain Gigi Datome scored 14 and Awudu Abass 13.
The Czech national team will face Russia (September 13) and Bosnia (September 16) in the first two games of Round of the Qualifiers, while Italy will play against Poland (September 14) and Hungary (September 17).
