The Turkish Basketball Federation announced to Maccabi Tel Aviv that they want naturalized guard Scottie Wilbekin to be available for the World Cup Qualifiers games held in November/December, Walla reports.
Turkey, that is currently, 6-2 in Group A, will face Spain (7-1) on November 29 and Montenegro (4-4) on December 2 and can qualify to the World Cup with two wins in these games. NBAers such as Ersan Ilyasova, Cedi Osman and Furkan Korkmaz will be unavailable, thus the Federation wants Wilbekin to lead the charge.
The ball is on Maccabi’s court though since the Israeli team has a EuroLeague game vs. Bayern Munich the same day Turkey takes on Spain. There’s also another EuroLeague match for Maccabi on December 6, against Darussafaka in Istanbul.
Wilbekin is the leading scorer and passer for Maccabi in EuroLeague with 20.7 points and 6 assists per game.
