Semih Erden nothced game-high 29 PIR and scored the crucial basket as Turkey overcame Spain 71-67 in the November ‘window’ of 2019 World Cup Qualifiers.
Erden registered a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounuds while Dogus Balbay and James Metecan Birsen added 12 points each. For Spain, Dario Brizuela scored game-high 18 in addition to Fran Vazquez’s ten points.
After a balanced first half (36-34), the hosts went ahead 56-48 but Spain came back and the teams were tied at 67 with 45 seconds left. Erden pushed Turkey ahead 69-67 and they secured the game from the free-throw line after a good defense.
Turkey stayed undefeated at home (5-0) while both national teams hold a 7-2 record at the top of Group I but are yet to clinch a spot in the Final Round.
