On Thursday at St. Thomas, Brazil beat the Virgin Islands 104-80 to advance to the final stage of the FIBA World Cup. Marquinhos Sousa scored 22 points and Vitor Benite added 20 for the clinching win in the Americas qualifier.
The Dominican Republic all but secured a World Cup spot of its own after the 72-67 home victory against Venezuela overcoming Gregory Vargas’ 26 points. The other game of the evening saw Canada overpower Chile, 85-46.
