Montenegro will make their debut to China’s FIBA World Cup this summer, but coach Zvezdan Mitrovic does not think about the heavy toll of representing the smallest nation in the tournament, rather than what his team can do to enjoy its inaugurate participation.
“We will focus on our team, and only on our team,” Mitrovic said as adapted by FIBA. “We’re interested to learn in what kind of shape our players will be when they arrive at training camp and we don’t know (if) we will have all of them available. But first, we will be thinking about our game and then about our opponents.”
As for Montenegro’s opponents, it’s interesting to put New Zealand in perspective. By contrasts, a population of 4.7 million inhabitants makes New Zealand look like a gigantic country compared to Montenegro. The two teams will cross paths in Group F action in Nanjing at the World Cup.
“New Zealand is a tough team for sure. Definitely not a game in which we expect an easy win. I know for a fact that they always play very tough basketball, they keep on fighting, and what they show during continental competitions is really interesting”, added coach Mitrovic.
