After finishing his 2018-19 campaign with Movistar Estudiantes, Alessandro Gentile plans to work out in the USA before joining the Italian National Team ahead of the 2019 FIBA World Cup. Nando Gentile shared his son’s summer schedule with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The 26-year-old Italian will travel to USA in the next coming days and will train individually at Santa Barbara. He also wants to play in the NBA Summer League in July, before linking himself with Italy’s preparations for the World Cup set to take place at China between August 31st and September 15th.
Gentile missed last year’s Summer League due to injury and was later waived by the Houston Rockets, who held his NBA rights. Under the new circumstances, he is allowed to join any NBA side for the 2019 Summer League.
His 2018-19 campaign with Estudiantes saw him average 15.2 points per ACB contest. He also had 4.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.3 blocks per match in 22 appearances.
For Italy, his National Team will play the Group Stage at Foshan facing Philippines on August 31st, Angola on September 2nd and Serbia on September 4th. If the Italians secure one of the two top Group D spots, they will join Group J and will go against two of Spain, Iran, Puerto Rico and Tunisia for a Quarterfinals spot.
