Nicolo Melli underwent a knee surgery the Italian Federation announced. The 28-year-old Italian forward had planned to be operated after the completion of the Turkish BSL League Finals with Fenerbahce Beko.
The Italian Federation mentions that Melli won’t join the national team in the Pinzolo training camp (23-29 of July). His condition will be monitored “week by week” ahead of the World Cup (31/8 – 15/9).
Melli agreed to a two-year deal with the New Orleans Pelicans earlier this summer. It will be the first NBA contract for the former All-EuroLeague forward.
In 2018-2019, Melli averaged 7.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 25:57 minutes over 36 EuroLeague games. He helped Fenerbahce reach the Final Four for the fifth straight season.
