Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard has become the seventh Team USA player deciding to skip the 2019 World Cup, as Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Lillard’s Blazers teammate C.J. McCollum has also withdrawn from participating in the World Cup. Houston Rockets guards James Harden and Eric Gordon, L.A. Lakers forward/center Anthony Davis, Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal and Philadelphia 76ers forward Tobias Harris have all opted to not play in the tournament after being named to the preliminary roster.
The training camp squad of Team USA now features just 13 players.
Marc Stein of the New York Times has reported that Boston Celtics guard Kemba Walker and Milwaukee Bucks guard Khris Middleton intends to stay with the team and compete in the World Cup. Utah Jazz guard Donovan Michell also plans to play in the tournament, per Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
