New Zealand cuts down World Cup roster to 14 players

Fourteen players are with New Zealand ahead of the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

New Zealand is gearing up for the 2019 FIBA World Cup set to take place at China between August 31st and September 15th. The initial roster of the Tall Blacks featured Steven Adams, but the NBA star will not yet debut with his national team. However, 14 other New Zealand representatives are in Paul Henare’s current list of players available.

The 14 above players will travel to Japan for a nine-day camp and a couple of friendly matches against the Japanese national team. Two games versus Canada will follow on August 21st and 22nd, before the final World Cup squad will be named.

At Nanjing, China, New Zealand will face Brazil on September 1st, Montenegro on September 3rd and Greece on September 5th. First or second place in Group F will land a spot in the second group stage, third or fourth will hold the side to classification matches.
