One week after announcing the 12-man squad for the 2019 FIBA World Cup, Australia is a player short. According to multiple reports from Australia, the 27-year-old swingman of SIG Strasbourg suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee and was ruled out of the World Cup.
Cooks was set to debut with his national team in a major FIBA competition following an impressive training camp run. However, his injury will not allow him to travel to China with his teammates forcing the Boomers to name a replacement for Andrej Lemanis’ 12-man squad.
Australia will compete in Group H facing Canada on September 1st, Senegal on September 3rd and Lithuania on September 5th. First and second place of the group set to take place at Dongguan leads to Group L of the second round, third and fourth to classification matches.
