Greece might miss Kostas Sloukas in the 2019 FIBA World Cup. The 29-year-old guard suffered a calf injury in Friday’s friendly game versus Italy at Athens and was immediately ruled out for the rest of the Acropolis International Tournament. Saturday’s MRI revealed a strain, the Greek Basketball Federation announced.

Sloukas will be reevaluated on Tuesday to further determine the severity of his injury. However, the Fenerbahce BEKO will not travel to China with his teammates and Greece’s coaching staff on Wednesday, he will instead remain in the Greek capital for treatment.

Depending on his condition afterwards, the three-time EuroLeague champion might make the trip to China ahead of the World Cup. Greece is set to kick off action on September 1st with a match against Montenegro at Nanjing.
