Mathias Lessort spoke to teamfrancebasket.com about not fearing despite facing an injury at the start of the preparation, as well as Team France’s key to this World Cup.
“I was not really worried [about missing a few games] because I had already demonstrated what I could bring to the team during the qualifying windows. Vincent Collet knows me very well now, he knows what I can bring, what are my qualities and faults”, told Lessort.
The 23-year-old big man also commented on France’s victory against Argentina, in the preparation tournament of Lyon. “It was clearly a collective effort against Argentina. I did not think I was MVP because I missed all my free throws … But I’m happy with our match. We did a lot of work and everyone contributed to the building. That’s what will make us strong”.
For France, defense will be the key point while heading to FIBA World Cup to face the Dominican Republic, Germany, and Jordan in the First Round.
“I think this is the strong point of the team” mentioned Lessort. “Even more, since we lost Adrien Moerman and Thomas Heurtel who were very strong offensive players. This forces us to focus on defense. Then, Argentina was probably also tired by its 3 games in 3 days with small rotations but we must not minimize our performance. We respected our defensive principles”.
