Six players scored in double figures for Team USA in the 102 – 86 win over Australia in a preparation game that took place in Melbourne.
51,218 fans attended the first of the two prep matches that will be played between the two teams in Australia. Game 2 will take place Saturday (August 24).
Kemba Walker paced Team USA to victory by scoring a game-high 24 points. Miles Turner added a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds, Donovan Mitchell scored 13, Kyle Kuzma 12, while Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum dropped 11 points apiece.
For Australia, Chris Goulding scored 19 points in 22 minutes off the bench. Patty Mills also had 19 points. Jock Landale posted 10 points and seven rebounds and Matthew Dellavedova 10 points.
The USA squad overpowered its opponents 32 – 16 in the third quarter and preserved a safe lead in the fourth period. Gregg Popovich’s players finished the match with 13/30 3-pointers.
