Similar to the post-game press conference of Russia’s match versus Argentina on Wednesday, Sergey Bazarevich discussed the difference of free throws awarded to Poland in Friday’s FIBA World Cup Group I opener at Foshan. Russia suffered defeat despite leading most of the way and building a double-digit lead in the first half.
“We tried to play organized, but in some situations lost focus” the 54-year-old head coach admitted. “Looking at the stats, we were better at everything, but they shot 38 free throws, we shot 19. It is interesting. Maybe we play bad defense.”
“They say the ball is round, hopefully we will have better luck in the Olympic qualifiers and more players basically. We were missing the starting five” Bazarevich added commenting on the 2020 Olympic qualifiers and the players unavailable for the World Cup in progress.
