After a balanced start, Team USA went ahead in double-digits and kept the distance for a 69-53 win over Greece in the Second Round of FIBA World Cup.
The US squad improved to a 4-0 record in Group K hile Greece now holds a 2-2 record behind Brazil and the Czech Republic with 3-1.
Kemba Walker banked 15 points for the winning side while dishing six assists followed by Donovan Mitchell’s ten and Derrick White’s nine points.
Giannis Antetokounmpo opened the game strong with seven out of nine points for Greece but the USA quickly found the answer filling the paint and keeping him on nine points in the first half. Team USA had a 19-17 lead after the first quarter but went ahead 38-25 by halftime as they outran Greece which had trouble scoring from deep (4-17).
Giannis finished the game with 15 points and 13 rebounds while Kostas Sloukas helped with 13 in addition to Ioannis Papapetrou’s seven points.
It was a similar story in the second half as the USA kept scoring in transition while Greece still couldn’t find an answer on offense (7-27 triples). The Americans led by a 17-points margin (54-37) after the third quarter and although Greece closed in to 11 points (63-52), it was too late to turn it around.
